Project management yara1 - Essay Example The company should sponsor the project because the product will bring revenue to the company in case of success. The issue of the project manager should be given to the person who best qualifies to be a manager. The considerations may include past performances and characters in the job market. The department cannot be specified because it might limit the talent needed in carrying out a new project. The results of a new project are numerous. The project is expected to add the items in the purchase list of the company (Figge & Schaltegger, 2011). The project is anticipated to increase target market of the company. This will in turn create more revenue for the company. It will create new employment opportunities. Other expectations are new consumer tastes and preferences. The project charter will spell out the scope of the project, the goals and objectives and the participants. The project will show that the reasons for undertaking it are the expected results as mentioned earlier. The main objective is to earn more revenue in order to benefit the company. The participants include the design department, production department, purchasing, shipping, and sales and the marketing departments. The projects value is that the company will not only create more choices for its customers but also compete with other business entities. This is because the variety of the companyââ¬â¢s products will be added. This will raise the companyââ¬â¢s bargaining position especially in the market. The problem that the project will solve is (Post, 2002) that of quantity. The customers will have options of buying bigger plastic storage, but with significantly better features. This will increase the demand of the container. The ramifications that are involved in not carrying out the project are devastating. This means that there will be no product creation or development in the company. There will also be no motivation of the employees who came up with the

Energy Crisis Essay Every country in the world uses energy. For example: to cook. It is becoming one of the basic needs in life. But where does the energy come from? In the year 2008, 85% of the power that we are using was nonrenewable energy, which means that someday, these energies will be gone. However, right now, there are people who have started using renewable energy such as solar energy. There are more than 7 billion people in the world right now and it will keep rising while the energy resources are depleting. Even though there are many energies that are renewable, the renewable energies are harder to make use of, which is one of the reasons why not many people use them. Also, they require some advanced technology. If we donââ¬â¢t find something else to replace oil, coal and natural gas, we wonââ¬â¢t have the energy to use in the future. One of the forms of the renewable energy is solar energy. Solar energy uses energy from sunlight to create energy for our home. Sunlight is a clean, renewable resource. There are many ways to get energy from sunlight, such as the photovoltaic (PV) panels, converting sunlight into electricity and solar electricity, using the sunââ¬â¢s heat to produce electricity. Solar cells, or the photovoltaic panels, convert sunlight directly into electricity. We can often find solar cells in calculators and watches. Since solar cells are made up of semiconducting materials, materials whose conductivity will increase with temperature, sunlight will lose their electrons, allowing the electrons to flow through semiconducting materials to produce electricity when sunlight is absorbed. Solar electricity is separated into three kinds: parabolic-trough, dish/engine, and power tower. Parabolic-trough concentrates the sunlight through mirrors. The mirror will be tilted towards the sun, heating the oil that is flowing in the pipe inside the panel. Heated oil will then be used to boil water to produce electricity. The dish/engine is a dish-shaped mirror that will collect heat from sunlight and transfer it to the fluid within the engine. The heat would cause the fluid to expand and produce mechanical power. A power tower system uses a large field of mirrors to concentrate sunlight onto the top of a tower. This heat will melt salt that flows through the receiver and the salts heat will be used to generate electricity through a conventional steam generator. With different kinds of solar panel, the price varies in the range from $5,000 to $30,000, depending on the effectiveness and the amount of energy you use. Even though the solar panels are expensive, many people still use them since they think that solar energy is energy-efficient and green. One of the advantages solar energy has is being renewable. As long as there are living things on this planet, there will always be solar energy since we get solar energy from sunlight. Even though sunlight is not present at night, the solar energy could still be stored by charging the batteries during the day and be used at night. We could then get more sunlight on the next day. Moreover, solar energy creates absolutely no pollution or noise, unlike other machines. It doesnââ¬â¢t damage the environment by emitting greenhouse gases or polluting water, air or land. By using this source of energy, the air will be cleaner and it helps stop the global warming. Other than this, in the long term, the solar energy is much cheaper than the energy resources we are using now. Even though it is expensive, initially the maintenance requirement is very small and the service life is around 30 years. The main disadvantage of solar energy is that it is extremely expensive. This is mostly why nowadays, not many people use solar energy. The price is unaffordable. Furthermore, since our world is polluted, the rain or the clouds could block sunlight from getting to the panels, making it ineffective. With a cloudy climate, the panels will be able to produce sunlight at a slower rate and may require more panels to generate enough electricity for your house, which will require more money. Even though using solar energy in houses might not require huge amount of area, big buildings do. To use the solar panels to their maximum ability, they need to be in the sun. With bigger buildings, you will need many more panels and to get them to work to their maximum ability, you will need a huge amount of area for the panels to be in the sunlight. Even though solar energy has some disadvantages, the advantages still overweight the disadvantages since energies are running out and this solar energy is everywhere. If we can get all of the energy that was sent to this planet, we could light the entire planet for one year within an hour. But the problem with this is we cant. If we can find a way to harvest this energy, we can have as much electricity as we want until the end of the human generation. Right now, there are many renewable energies that scientists have found but they are not yet the best way to solve the energy crisis. Therefore, scientists are still searching for new forms of energy. Dark energy is another form of energy that is very useful to mankind. In the universe, it is composed of up to 74% dark energy. What is dark energy? Dark energy is the unexplained force that causes the acceleration of the expansion of the universe. Even though there is no evidence that the dark energy does exist, people agree that it does since they believe that the universe had a beginning, and is expanding. Other than dark energy, the underwater pressure can be another useful energy resource. Beneath the water surface, there is a potential constant source of unused hydroelectric power in the form of deep water pressure. According to Rick Dickson, he had invented a way to harvest this deep water pressure by transferring its pressure to air and then to a piston. The name of this process is called Ocean Pressure Electric Conversion. Therefore, as we know, the dark energy and the hydroelectric power are very powerful; if we could get dark energy by using a similar way to the way we get solar energy and harvest the water pressure, Im positive that we would never run out of energy again. Why should women become priests? Catholic Churches today and in the past 40 years or so have been starting to ordain women as priests. Most people think this is completely sacrilegious and revolting against the church. But, women do not want to become priests because they are angry, or because they want to win, or because they want to trample menââ¬â¢s feelings, but because they are searching for the truth about themselves as women, and so they can relate more to God. Let me explain. First, let me begin with feminism. Feminism is the belief that women and men are equal in dignity as human beings. Most people would agree that equal dignity, at times, has been denied for women. This changes attitudes, concepts, and structures to reveal this equality. Also, feminism is not just a call for women to have an equal place in the current system of the Church, but rather it challenges people to rethink the system itself in the light of womenââ¬â¢s experience. Women do not want merely equal access to priesthood in the Church, they want to remake it (Bielgrien 13). Women continue to strive for equal status in the church. They are beginning to oppose more and more of the Churchââ¬â¢s teaching. Feminists are now opposing the idea that humans have a ââ¬Å"dual anthropology.â⬠The Church supports this philosophy and explains that ââ¬Å"womenââ¬â¢s human nature is naturally different from menââ¬â¢s human natureâ⬠(Bielgrien 13). Arguments against the ordination of women imply this nature, in which sexual differentiation is seen as an essential element and therefore part of the divine plan that God wants. The dual nature of men and women is the ordaining principle for complementary roles, functions, and activities of women and menâ⬠(Bielgrien 13-15). However, women who are in favor of ordaining women priests say there is a ââ¬Å"one-nature anthropology.â⬠This philosophy claims that ââ¬Å"there is no preordained role or function, beyond the biological, for either men or women since the appropriate activities of the individual are extrapolated from spiritual and personal characteristicsâ⬠(Bielgrien 16).

Friedreich's ataxia Friedreich's ataxia is an inherited disease that causes progressive damage to the nervous system resulting in things like gait disturbance, speech problems, heart disease and diabetes. Friedreich's ataxia is caused by a defect in a gene called Frataxin, which is located on chromosome 9. The changes in this gene cause the body to produce too much trinucleotide repeat (GAA).This mutation causes gene silencing through induction of a heterochromatin structure in a manner similar to position-effect variegation. Normally, the body contains about 8 to 30 copies of GAA, however the people with Friedreich's ataxia may have as many as 1,000 copies. The more copies of GAA a person has, the earlier the disease will start and the faster it will get worse. Symptoms typically begin sometime between the ages of 5 to 15, but in rare cases, Friedreichââ¬â¢s ataxia may occur around the ages of 20 to 30.Some of the symptoms are; abnormal speech, changes in vision (particularly col or vision), decrease in ability to feel vibrations in lower limbs, foot problems, hearing loss, jerky eye movements, loss of coordination and balance, frequent falls, muscle weakness, no reflexes in the legs, and uncoordinated movements. Friedreich's ataxia is an autosomal recessive genetic disorder. This means you must get a copy of the defective gene from both your mother and father. About 1 in every 22,000-29,000 people develop this disease but family history of the condition raises your chances of getting it.On average, after 10-15 years with the disease patients are usually wheelchair bound and require assistance with all activities. Unfortunately, there is no known cure for Friedreich's ataxia. There are, however, medicines, therapy treatments and surgeries available to those who are affected but it will not rid them of the disease. Titanium screws and rods are often inserted in the spine to help prevent or slow the progression of this disease. The goal of surgery is to keep t he patient alive as long as possible. As the ataxia progresses, things such as a cane, walker, or wheelchair are required for mobility.

Anti-American sentiment grew in Afghanistan as a result of American policy neither leaving the country alone nor helping to rebuild it. When the Geneva Accords were signed on April 14, 1988, it ended Soviet involvement and ushered in a new era for Afghanistan. The creation of a radical, extremist government by the Taliban allowed for other extremists to join them in establishing a radical Muslim state. Many foreign investors, such as Osama Bin Laden, funded the Taliban army in exchange for political control. According to journalist Ahmed Rashid, ââ¬Å"[Osama] funded a lot of their activities. The USA Patriot Act is an acronym that stands for Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism and was passed on October 26, 2001 to expand the tools that law enforcement agencies had in fighting terrorists. The act armed law enforcement with tools for surveillance of terrorists, such as wiretaps and access to business documents. Theoretically, these additions to the law would allow for terrorists to be apprehended before they would attack. Voices of men have traditionally been the loudest, and therefore most important in history, especially in Medieval Europe where male academics and preachers had the most influence on the lower classes and upper classes. Those accused of witchcraft were disproportionately female, and the writing and sermons from this era clearly set the groundwork for misogynistic witch hunts which are to come in the Early Modern period. The works of Burchard of Worms, William of Malmesbury, Jacobus de Voragine, Bernardino of Siena, and Martin Le Franc each perpetuate different stereotypes of magic which all address the idea of gender in sorcery. While not all of these texts take explicitly misogynistic or misandristic positions, they give insight into whether or not gender was a main issue in determining who was or wasnââ¬â¢t a witch. However, itââ¬â¢s important to keep in mind whose voice is being heard in these texts: often well respected, upper class, or clerical men. As a result of these au thors positions, they have influence far beyond their parishes and countries and, therefore, can define, both explicitly and implicitly, what ideas are ââ¬Å"correctâ⬠about the behavior of women, specifically regarding witchcraft. Because these texts were written by men, there is a clear and distinct bias about womenââ¬â¢s behavior and their possible involvement in the magical arts, however there are some notable variations that still establish harmfully unattainable ideal. The majority of the writings and preachings
